# Get card read status

GET https://javelin.runpayments.io/api/terminal/{device_id}/read-card/{interaction_id}

Returns the status of a card read interaction. `result` is `null` while `status` is `pending`.

Interactions expire 3 minutes after they're created. A `404` means the interaction never existed, the `device_id` is wrong, or the interaction expired.

If a signature was requested on a terminal that doesn't support it, `status` is still `succeeded`: the card was tokenized
and only the signature step was skipped. In that case `result.error` is `signature not supported`.

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Use a Payments API key as the bearer token: `Authorization: Bearer <api_key>`. Get a fresh key from [Refresh API Keys](/reference/authentication/refresh-api-keys).

## Request

### Path parameters

- `device_id` (string, required) — Hardware Serial Number (HSN) of the terminal, provided by your Integration Delivery lead.
- `interaction_id` (string, required) — The `interaction_id` returned when the interaction was created.

### Query parameters

- `mid` (string, optional) — Merchant ID. Required when your bearer token is an ISV token acting on behalf of a merchant. If the `mid` can't be resolved to an authorized account, the request returns `400`.

Interaction status

- `interaction_id` (string, required) — The interaction identifier.
- `status` (enum, required) — Status of the interaction.
  - Allowed values: `pending`, `succeeded`, `failed`, `cancelled`
- `result` (ReadCardResult, required, nullable) — `null` while `pending`. On success, contains the card token and details. On failure or cancellation, contains only `error`.
- `updated_at` (string, required) — Time of the last status update.

### 404 Not Found Error

Terminal or interaction not found.

- `error` (string, optional) — Error message.

### 429 Too Many Requests Error

Rate limit exceeded. All Terminal API endpoints share a per-credential rate limit.

### ReadCardResult

- `token` (string, optional) — Payment account token. Use as `account_token` with the Payments API.
- `name` (string, optional) — Cardholder name.
- `expiry` (string, optional) — Card expiration date (`MMYY`).
- `amount` (string, optional) — Authorized amount in decimal dollars.
- `signature` (string, optional) — Captured signature image, when requested and supported.
- `error` (string, optional) — Error message. On a succeeded interaction, `signature not supported` means only the signature step was skipped.
